Report: iPhone 5 to have 8MP camera & A5 Chip, iPad 3 to Gain 1/3 Higher Resolution, iPhone Nano On The Way?
Jun 23rd
Contrary to yesterday’s rumor of an August iPhone 5 release. Bloomberg reports that the next-gen iPhone will actually debut in September, will feature an A5 chip, and will gain an 8MP camera sensor. Also, the report claims the iPad’s resolution will increase by 1/3.
MacTrast In-House Mock-Up Of Possible iPhone 4S / iPhone 5 Design
The report also claims that, contrary to yesterday’s rumors of a redesigned iPhone 5, the upgrade will actually use the same external casing as the iPhone 4 (which backs up the majority of rumors on this topic). They’ll also feature an A5 chip, an idea that Apple has already been rumored to be playing with by allegedly sending A5-equipped test units to certain developers.
As far as the iPad 3, things get a little weird. Bloomberg’s report reports, and rather oddly, that the next-gen iPad will feature a display about 1/3 greater in resolution than the current iPad, and that the display would be more responsive. While many rumors have suggested that the iPad would gain a better display, 1/3 higher resolution is just strange – it would force developers to re-design all the graphics in their apps.
Rather than proceed this way, it seems much more likely that Apple would simply double the iPad’s resolution, making things easier on developers and retaining compatibility with original iPad apps. This is backed up by rumors that graphics were recently found in an iOS 5-exclusive frameworks API that referenced an iPad with a Retina Display.
The report finally concludes by suggesting that Apple is working to finish a cheaper model of the iPhone, which they would target to developing countries and those of lower income that can’t afford current hardware.
While I’m not immediately sure what to do with this rumor, my instinct suggests that I discount it entirely, as Bloomberg provides no reason why anyone would believe their claims, and besides being unsupported, several of the claims are strange, unintuitive, and oppose much of what has previously been rumored.
As for me, I’m gonna file this one safely under “bullshit.” What about you? Sound off in the comments!
