Here we have another LCD monitor from HP, the 2011xi. This new 20-inch LED-backlight IPS monitor provides 1600 x 900 native resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness, 7ms response time and 178/178 degree viewing angles, and features both mini D-Sub and DVI-D connectors. Overhead highway wires turn trucks into electric hybrids

You know why we don’t have battery-powered trains? It’s because having battery-powered trains would be a silly idea. When you have something that just goes from point A to point B over and over, it makes more sense to make electricity available over the entire stretch, and Siemens is going to try that idea out with trucks on highways.

Are NFC and smartphones-as-credit-cards dumb ideas?

Since way before the iPhone was a gleam in Steve Jobs’s eye, back when the Motorola RAZR was the mobile phone du jour, financial institutions, mobile handset makers and carriers have dreamed of turning your cellphone into a mobile wallet, to use your smartphone the same way you use a credit or debit card.
Finally, this year we may finally reach this near field communication (NFC) nirvana, of simply waving our smartphone over a retail payment terminal instead of a credit or debit card to pay for our copiously consumed commodities.
There’s only one problem. Using your smartphone as a credit or debit card replacement may be more trouble than it’s worth.

Rumor: Wii U will store game saves and profiles in the cloud

We’re gearing up for E3 in a few weeks and a few new deets on Nintendo’s Wii U are starting to leak. Rumor has it that Nintendo will join Sony and Microsoft by providing gamers with limited cloud storage on the Nintendo Network.
