GameKeyboard 2.0 Adds Xperia Play Gamepad Support to All Android Games
May 4th

Sony’s Xperia Play has been out now for quite some time and it can still be frustrating when you come across a game and the device’s built-in gamepad isn’t supported. If you are a Xperia Play owner I am sure this is rather frustrating and let me tell you, you aren’t alone. Enter LocNet’s GameKeyboard 2.0, the answer to all your Xperia Play gaming woes. As long as your device has root access, GameKeyboard 2.0 will allow you to map any game’s on-screen controls onto the gamepad instead. Setting up the app has been said to be a bit difficult the first time around but after you get the hang of it everything is smooth sailing. There is even an XDA thread full of experienced users who can lend a hand.
GameKeyboard 2.0 sells for $2.49 in the Google Play Store and if this sounds like something you’d be interested in, jump past the break for download links and to see a quick demo video of the app in action. I have a feeling this is what you hardcore Xperia play gamers have been looking for. If you end up checking it out, be sure to come back here and give us your opinion in the comments.

Lookout Mobile Security adds File System and Install Monitoring to both free and premium users
May 1st

We’re big fans of Lookout Mobile Security here at Talk Android. They just keep getting better. Today they announced two new services: File System Monitoring and Install Monitoring. These two services are aimed at those of you that like to download apps from alternative markets, forums, or any other means. Lookout already has protection for scanning apps after installation, but this update will scan these 3rd party apps before installation. That’s the ultimate form of protection because there’s no sense installing something that’s malware to begin with.
Don’t worry if you download these third party apps to your SD card because Lookout will scan your card and let you know in real time because it constantly ‘watches” your card. Since most people look to install an app immediately upon downloading, this makes sense. Many traditional scans are scheduled so if you download an apk, but your scan isn’t scheduled for another 3 days, what’s the sense?
With Install Monitoring, users will be given an option to scan all third party apps at the beginning of the side-load installation process.
Hit the links below to grab the update or give Lookout a try if you haven’t already. It’s free to get started.

Facebook For Android Updated – Version 1.9 Adds New Messaging Features And Shortcut Spam
Apr 21st

Facebook was updated in the Google Play Store today, and while it adds a new hand-dandy messaging feature, another one might rub a few users the wrong way. First up, is a new way to message your friends by adding them to existing group convos, or creating completely new ones. That should help those chatty Facebook users out there.

Next up is the addition of new Messaging and Camera icon/shortcuts that will auto-magically populate your app drawer after updating. Fun for the casual Android user, but pain in the butt for those of us who don’t look favorably upon app icon spam. Definitely not a fan. You can find the updated Facebook version 1.9 right now in the Google Play Store.
