Google Voice Adds Spam Filter – Say Goodbye To Unwanted Callers
Jul 13th
![]()
Google has been quite the busy little bee lately. Today we’ve seen updates for Google Shopper, Android Market and now — Google Voice gets some new added features. GV has begun rolling out a new spam filter not unlike the one found in your Gmail. Now, you can say goodbye to annoying telemarketers, and bitter ex-girlfriends by having their calls sent directly into your Spam filter. The process is completely automatic and can be enabled on the Calls tab of Google Voice settings by checking the box next to Global SPAM filtering. Easy peasy. Oh – and the service works with texts messages too!
Google wants to remind you that this has all been made possible thanks in part to the thousands of Google Voice users who are actively marking pesky numbers as spam everyday. So, remember to do your part by marking unwanted calls as spam and correcting mis-labled spam. Sorry, Cindy. I know you’re bitter about the breakup but you’ve just been Google SPAMERIZED!

IM+ App Updated to 4.1.5, Adds New Networks and Emoticons, Along With Other Tweaks
Jul 11th
It’s no secret that there are plenty of instant messenger applications out there. Practically every company has their own chat service, each with its own client. The ones that tend to get my attention, however, are the clients that allow for multiple services to be run through one app. IM+ is one of the more popular of such apps, and it has received an update to bring it up to version 4.1.5. The key improvements are as follows:
- VKontakte and Yandex IM networks added (Cheers to our users from Russia!)
- New splendid emoticons
- Integration with Android Address Book
- New Compact Mode UI to fit smaller displays
- Ability to disable notifications in status bar
- DND status
- Improved IM+ Toast alerts
- Japanese localization
- Fixed fast battery draining //IM+ free
- Many bugfixes and performance optimizations
If you already have this app, be sure and grab the update, and if you don’t but it sounds appealing, drop by the market and download it.

Fantastical 1.0.2 adds BusyCal support
Jul 8th
Flexibits today introduced Fantastical 1.0.2, an upgrade to its innovative Mac calendar app that includes one of its most requested features, BusyCal support.
Fantastical is a front-end to your calendar program (either iCal or BusyCal) that’s available instantly from the menu bar via a click or a keyboard shortcut. I use it everyday, many times a day, and it’s an indispensible part of my daily routine.
My use case Fantastical goes like this: someone asks if I’m available on a given date, I type Control-Option-Space and a mini-version of my calendar reveals from my menu bar. I quickly scan my calendar from this UI and click on a given day to see what I’ve got scheduled that day. Color-coding helps make quick sense of my various calendars.
But, it’s the second part where things get interesting.
If I am available on a given day, I can type sentence like ”Lunch with John at 123 Main Street on Tuesday” into the text field at the top of Fantastical and it translates my sentence into an event and adds it to my calendar. Using iCal, this would involve lunching the app and about two dozen additional clicks to find the date and add the details of an appointment. Fantastical’s natural language engine is extremely impressive and alone worth the $19.99 price of admission.
The icing is that Fantastical supports CalDAV sync allowing it to sync with MobileMe, Google Calendar, and Yahoo! Calendar.
Fantastical is available for $19.99 from the Mac App Store or directly from the Flexibits Store. Fantastical requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later. Fantastical 1.0.2 is a free update for all existing customers.
