AT&T HTC One X And Sprint EVO 4G LTE Imports Delayed By Customs
May 17th

It looks like we’re about to have a major snafu in regards to the anticipated arrivals of the AT&T HTC One X and Sprint EVO 4G LTE smartphones. HTC recently confirmed the imports of both devices have been delayed at the U.S. border due to a “customs review”. The reason for this hints in the direction of none other than Apple. Apparently, the cause may come from the ITC exclusion order Apple was granted last December over hyperlinks in the messaging app and browser. HTC claims the issues raised by Apple in front of the ITC were more or less silly and would be removed from their various products. Unfortunately, customs must review the shipments coming in after the April 19 deadline set in place by the ITC whether HTC likes it or not. HTC added an official statement regarding the matter:
“The US availability of the HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed due to a standard U.S. Customs review of shipments that is required after an ITC exclusion order. We believe we are in compliance with the ruling and HTC is working closely with Customs to secure approval. The HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE have been received enthusiastically by customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to get these products into their hands as soon as possible”.
While HTC is being professional and handling the matter as quietly as possible, there are many individuals who are offering vocal opinions for the latest turn of events from Apple. Rene Ritchie of iMore.com gave additional insights of Apple for the matter:
“Apple’s lawsuits against HTC — and Samsung and Motorola — stem from Apple’s feeling that Android was “grand theft” of iPhone intellectual property. Basically, they believe Google partnered with Apple, had their then-CEO Eric Schmidt on Apple’s board, and then not only stole Apple’s ideas about smartphone technology, but gave them away “promiscuously”.
The late Steve Jobs reportedly vowed to go “thermonuclear” over Android, and spend every dime in Apple’s tens of billions of dollars in the bank to reap horrible vengeance upon them.
Current Apple CEO Tim Cook has thus far been much calmer, but every bit as deadly about patent litigation, saying Apple shouldn’t be the developers for the whole world”.
As it stands, the AT&T HTC One X is currently listed as “sold out” on AT&T’s website, while the Sprint EVO 4G LTE is still due to go on sale this week, but the available stock in-store is unclear. So it’s more than possible we may not see either device for the foreseeable future.
Ladies and gents, feel free to let out a deep sigh at this time.

Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE and AT&T HTC One X Delayed – Apple To Blame
May 16th

Two of HTC’s heavy hitters — the HTC EVO 4G LTE and HTC One X — are facing shipping delays here in the states due to a U.S. Customs investigation. Apparently, both devices are being examined to ensure they aren’t in violation of an International Trade Commission exclusion order over Apple patent #5,946,647 (having to do with clickable links inside messaging and browser apps). HTC was supposed to have taken care of the issue but in a statement today, HTC announced:
“The US availability of the HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed due to a standard U.S. Customs review of shipments that is required after an ITC exclusion order. We believe we are in compliance with the ruling and HTC is working closely with Customs to secure approval. The HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE have been received enthusiastically by customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to get these products into their hands as soon as possible.”

Take a quick jump onto AT&T’s website, and you’ll notice both grey and white version of the One X are currently “out of stock,” and now it seems the EVO 4G LTE wont make its intended May 18th debut on Sprint.
HTC has been faced with ongoing legal troubles from Apple over patents on a few specific HTC devices and although it’s unclear why only these 2 HTC devices were targeted, we can only imagine Apple had something to do with this. The end of 2011 wasn’t the best year for the Taiwanese manufacturer and HTC was hoping hoping to get a good start on 2012 by beating the Samsung Galaxy S3 out of the gate. This would help them gain some of that valuable market share they’ve been losing to the GS2.
Let’s hope we wont have to wait too long before we can one again get our hands on arguably, the finest devices Android has to offer. Will this delay affect anyone’s decision to get their hands on the EVO LTE before the Galaxy S3 arrived? Let’s pretend for a second that this delay pushes the EVO LTE to launch right around the same time as the S3. Which would you choose?

AT&T to Introduce Family Data Sharing Plans
May 10th

Those who own both an iPhone and an iPad, or who have multiple family members all using smartphones, might wish there was a way to share data between devices and family members without having to pay for several separate data plans.

Fortunately, that may soon become a reality! Following Verizon’s announcement that they are working on family data sharing, AT&T Wireless CEO Ralph de la Vega reveals that they are planning to offer their own version of family data sharing in the near future as well!
CNET Reports:
The company has a firm hold on what type of plan it will offer and intends to offer one soon, said Ralph de la Vega, CEO of AT&T’s mobile business, in an interview with CNET here yesterday. A family data plan would allow consumers to buy one bucket of data, which can be used by multiple devices, a move industry observers believe could spur the sale of non-traditional cellular devices like connected tablets.
“I’m very comfortable with the plan that will be offered to our customers,” de la Vega said on the sidelines of his company’s home security and automation event at the CTIAWireless trade show.
It’s unclear how device subsidies would work under shared data plans, as they would affect the total amount that AT&T is able to recoup for subsidized devices over a typical two-year contract term. It will be interesting to see what AT&T is able to come up with.
No hints were given as to the pricing of shared data plans, but if AT&T is completely honest in the way they handle the situation, shared data prices should cost no more per gigabyte than individual data plans, although having multiple devices on the same plan may cause customers’ to buy larger pools of data.
There was also no word given on when AT&T might make their shared data plans available, although they may be trying to compete with Verizon, who plans to have their own shared data plans available by the middle of the year.
Hopefully more will be revealed in the near future – and hopefully AT&T decides to take the honest route with their shared data pricing, rather than trying to gouge their customers…

AT&T Cancels Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket HD – Prepares For Galaxy S3 Launch
May 10th

We may have our first casualty in the wake of the Samsung Galaxy S3. AT&T has been going full steam ahead with Samsung in 2012, offering a huge range of Samsung devices in their Android lineup, one of which will never see the light of day. It looks like the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD has now been cancelled. The Verge got the scoop today from Samsung’s Ryan Bidan, who told them the phone was no longer relevant in light of the Galaxy S3 announcement.
More of a “Lucy” type Galaxy device, the Skyrocket HD could be seen as the missing link between a Galaxy S2, and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S3. The device boasted a 4.65-inch HD display that was a little too close to the Galaxy S3′s 4.8-inch HD. Couple that with the Skyrocket HD’s dual-core Qualcomm processor and the Galaxy S3′s likely Qualcomm S4 processor, and you can see how some consumers would be confused.
Still no word on which carrier will be the first to offer the Samsung Galaxy S3 but if I had to bet, I’d go with AT&T. Well, that or a simultaneous Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T release like with the GS2.
Am I the only one that prefers the aluminum look of the Skyrocket HD over the GS3? What a shame…
