Google I/O Sessions Calendar Now Available – Start Planning Now
May 17th

For the lucky few developers that were quick enough to get their hands on one of Google’s golden tickets, and will be attending Larry Page’s Chocolate Factory this year — otherwise known as Google I/O — the Sessions calendar is now available for you to scan, and schedule your trip accordingly. Looking through the scheduled sessions and events, there were no real giveaways on what will be announced at this year’s keynote, but I did rather enjoy the clever wording on Day 3′s “For Butter or Worse: Smoothing out Performance in Android UI’s.” Ah, those Google guys… they just “get” me.
Of course, Phandroid will be on hand for the entire event, bringing you the very latest on whatever Mt. View manages to cook up. I’m crossing my fingers for an affordable Nexus tablet.
Thanks, Steve!

We go hands on with Sega’s Sonic 4 Episode II THD, Now Available for Tegra 3 Devices [Video]
May 16th
Today, Sega released the Android version of Sonic 4 Episode II exclusively for Tegra 3 devices so I decided to get up early so I could get my Hedgehog on. After playing Episode 1 and totally getting hooked, I was stoked to see what the new THD episode had in store for Android gaming. As I expected, Sega hit this one out of the park. In combination with the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, Sonic 4 Episode II is a complete blast from the past and well worth the $6.99 it costs in the Google Play Store. It even rivals the original game as it was played on the Sega game console.
If you are anything like me, you played Sonic the Hedgehog in your parents basement for hours on end when you were little and you will take any excuse you can get to relive those days of pure, unadulterated enjoyment. To give you an idea of what you can expect from Sega’s newest Android release, I put together a little demo video of the game in action. Before you go running off to check out the video I also wanted to remind you about our series of NVIDIA contests we are holding. We are giving away 3 separate prize packs over the period of 3 weeks and today is the cut-off for our first giveaway. This week’s prize pack consists of an ASUS Transformer Pad TF300, a matching keyboard dock, a wireless controller from Logitech, and a Jambox speaker. The contest ends tonight at 11:59 EST so be sure to get your entry in soon, and don’t forget to vote for your favorite TegraZone games in the Players Choice Awards. NVIDIA and ASUS are giving away seven of these same Transformer Prize Packs. All you have to do is vote for your favorites TegraZone games for three categorie (Best Gameplay, Best Graphics, and Overall Fun) and you will be automatically entered into the contest.
Okay… now you can go ahead and jump past the break to check out our demo video of the new Sonic game.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II now available in the Google Play Store; comes infused with Tegra-optimized graphics
May 16th
Sega has officially announced the launch of the second episode of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for Android. It continues where episode one left off as you control Sonic and lead Tails on a fast-paced, ring-filled journey. The Tegra 3 version of this game will impress you with higher resolution textures, more on-screen objects, and better lighting.
Those improved graphics will really shine through on a tablet. Playing it on the Transformer Prime was a thrill and all of that screen real estate makes you appreciate the time and effort that went into optimizing the game to take advantage of the quad-core GeForce-equipped Tegra 3 processor.
Having played Episode one on my Xbox 360, I can say that these graphics are comparable, if not nearly identical. I almost feel like I shouldn’t even be purchasing the console version as I’d be able to take the Tegra 3 version on the go, and I could use my tablet as a console via HDMI and a wireless controller if need be.
Don’t have a Tegra 3 device? Well, you have a chance to win one thanks to NVIDIA’s Player’s Choice Awards voting sweepstakes. If you submit your votes for the best Tegra games in three different categories, you’ll be entered to win one of seven Transformer Prize Packs, including an ASUS Transformer Pad 300, a wireless game controller from Logitech, and a Jawbone JAMBOX Bluetooth boombox.
Get your votes in by clicking here or by snapping the QR code you see below. We’ll also be holding our second contest and announcing the winner of the first contest tomorrow so stay tuned for that! As for Sonic 4: Episode II, find that in TegraZone and in the Google Play Store.
