Quick Look at Today’s Free Amazon App: Hungry Shark – Part 1
May 4th

Ok, lets get right to it. Todays free app in the Amazon App Store is Hungry Shark – Part 1. In this game full of bloodiness you are a shark (apparently dropped from a helicopter?) looking to devour everything in your path. You will have plenty of fun, going after all kinds of sea life to keep that belly full and your health and points up. Just avoid the jelly fish, which is just plain old common sense.

Amazon Giving Away a Motorola XOOM As Part of Prime Sweepstakes
Apr 27th

Amazon has announced a new sweepstakes to celebrate the savings their Amazon Prime users get on shipping. They’re going alphabetically and guess what the first letter is – A! You’d know that if you had a brain, of course, but I bet you’re wondering what the A will stand for. Nope, it has nothing to do with red (and sometimes green), crunchy, delicious, round fruit. No, it has to do with robots. Namely, Androids.
The Android they’ll be giving away is a WiFi-only Motorola XOOM. Although the contest celebrates prime members, it’s open to anyone in the United States with a Facebook account. Simply “like” their page there to unlock a form where you can submit your drawing. It doesn’t take long at all and considering what you get should you be lucky enough to win, there shouldn’t be much complaining. Go ahead and get started over at the book of faces. Cross-Platform Multiplayer, Part 1: Where Are We Now?
Apr 11th

The smartphone market is actually getting a glimpse of something that the console gaming world has yet to see: cross-platform multiplayer games. This concept of Android users playing games against iPhone users is still in its infancy, but it is out there. And we’re not talking about who has the highest score on Angry Birds, but rather straight-up head-to-head gaming. There are only a few games that we’ve found so far, and we’ll happily highlight them for you here. In another article at a later time, we will examine the big picture and evaluate the likely future of cross-platform gaming. But for now, let’s take a look at the current landscape.

Andy Rubin Promoted to Senior Vice President as Part of Google Reorganization Effort
Apr 9th

As Larry Page takes the reigns from Eric Schmidt as part of a reorganization of company’s top brass, it is clear communication between Google’s key product teams is a key part of the future of Google. As one of his first moves, Page promoted six executives including Android lead Andy Rubin. Rubin, now under the title of senior VP, will now report directly to Page in an effort to streamline Google’s executive structure and provide better company focus moving forward.
The move puts an emphasis on areas that Google will make top priority moving forward, and mobile is obviously at the top of the list. Rubin spoke out earlier this week on the current state of Android, and it is clear his passion for the platform has not faded in the slightest. With upcoming services such as the cloud-based Google Music (also headed up by Rubin), we may have only witnessed a fraction of what the company has in store.

Debunking the Sheep: Part 3
Apr 5th

Today’s myth has brought up quite a stir in the community recently. The Android vs iPhone war is bringing a lot of people back to the Mac vs PC wars of the 90’s. So what’s the myth today? The ol’ “it’s one device vs a million” cover.
“Of course android has a greater market share. If I gave away a bunch of phones for free it’d sell better than the iPhone too even if they were crap. You’re comparing a phone to an OS, that’s not fair. How many android phones are beating the iPhone. Zero. Developers would rather develop for one phone than a hundred that are so severely fragmented that half the apps don’t work. Also, Google makes NOTHING on their phones. Apple makes a killing on the iPhone…” (goes on to make nerd jokes and the whole “all Android users still live with their mothers” thing) Read More…
