Sprint doing away with early upgrade program starting June 1st?
May 16th

A memo leaking out of Sprint and into the hands of TechnoBuffalo has the carrier doing away with their early upgrade policy for existing customers. The move comes at a time when Sprint continues to hack away at customer-oriented policies. The carrier is citing “high costs” as the reason why customers will no longer be able to upgrade to a new phone at a discounted price 10-14 days prior early.
The cost cutting maneuver was likely brought about due to the expense of rolling out an LTE network to compete with AT&T and Verizon and the high price Sprint paid to carry the iPhone. With Dan Hesse and crew feeling the crunch, it may be just the first of several cost-cutting moves. The end of early upgrades shouldn’t turn away too many existing customers, but what’s next? The end of unlimited data? Let’s hope Sprint doesn’t get that far.

MagSafe Replacement Program
May 2nd
We get a lot of customers bringing in their MagSafe adapter because it won’t charge their laptop anymore. In most cases, the cable is damaged on either end due to over-flexing. Apple has acknowledged this issue and has a replacement program in effect.
Apple describes the issue as “Fraying, melting, straining, sparking, weakening, discoloration, bubbling or overheating.” If your charging adapter is showing symptoms similar to this, you should bring it to any of our stores. In order to get a replacement, we do need to check the adapter in. We will also need the serial number of the computer the adapter came with.
It typically takes 3 to 5 days to get a new adapter. In order to file a claim, we have to submit pictures of the damaged adapter so Apple can approve the replacement. There needs to be melting or burning on at least one end of the adapter. If there are any signs of accidental damage (such as if your pet chewed it) we are not able to get the adapter replaced at no cost.
We understand that when you are without an adapter, it can be very frustrating—stop by the store and we will see what we can do for you!

GameStop to begin trade-in program for Android tablets and smartphones?
Apr 29th

According to Gadget Experts, you could soon be able to trade-in your old Android devices at your nearest GameStop. Not much is known about the program, which currently seems to include only the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Nexus S and Infuse 4G, but the site says it should start some time this summer, rolling out to all locations countrywide by the end of the year. More devices would be added to the inventory, too.

Apr 14th
Those of you who signed up for the Republic Wireless mailing list , or placed an order for the limited time the option was available in November, should be able to sign up for the reservation program next week. Keep in mind that despite your early interest, there is still no guarantee that you’ll make the cut.
Once you get the E-Mail with the details, you have until a week to confirm your participation in the beta program. Unfortunately, there is still no word on which device will be provided (a new one was said to be available from April onwards).
I’m pretty excited to see how their hybrid WiFi/Cellular network performs, what about you guys?

They also have another deal in which they’re giving $50 off of any Sprint smartphone, plus an additional $50 for trading in an HTC EVO 4G.
