Sony Tablet P’s Android 4.0 update to roll out May 24th
May 19th

Sony’s plan to roll out Android 4.0.3 to the Tablet P in April may not have come to fruition, but the Japanese manufacturer is now stating that the Ice Cream Sandwich OTA update will be coming next week, on May 24th.
The Sony Tablet S had its update as promised, soon after Sony issued a press release in Japan. A global roll-out of the Ice Cream Sandwich was seen, and we can assume the same for the Tablet P. There might be some delays if you happen to have the AT&T version, though. The update has to go through the carrier before it hits your device.
Any device without Ice Cream Sandwich is considered outdated for most Android fans. Therefore, it is good to see that manufacturers are updating their products, even if a bit late. If you have been carrying this foldable tablet, let us know when/if the update hits your device!

Build your own Android Tablet with Liquidware Amber
May 18th

I’ll hazard a guess that a big factor behind your decision to buy an Android phone was the depth of customisation options available to you straight out of the box. There’s not much you can’t change on your phone these days and there’s always customer launchers or rooting for those who like to take it one step further. Still not satisfied? Well perhaps we have the solution for you.
Meet the Liquidware Amber, the tablet development framework for the more adventurous Android modder. Open the box and you’ll find an ARM Cortex A8 Processor, a 7″ capacitive display, 512 MB RAM and a custom Android 2.3 build. The tablet has no casing although it is fully functional, it’s down to the individual to decide which peripherals they’d like to add over and above the standard package. The only limitation is your sense of adventure!
The Amber doesn’t come cheap with the price ranging from $983 to $1,674 depending on which kit you opt for. Check out the video below and get ready to ditch that Meccano set for something a bit more exciting.

Chameleon is Now a Kickstarter Project Looking to Make the Tablet UI Sexy Again
May 18th

The great thing about Android is the fact that if you don’t like the way it looks, you can use a slew of various launcher applications to change it to work for you. NOVA Launcher and Go Launcher are just a few of the launcher options you have. However the one thing I find with every launcher I’ve used is that even though I set it to work great for me, it still feels not as efficient as it should be. Mind you I am talking about my tablet UI. Ice Cream Sandwich on the Nexus works perfectly in my opinion. Enter Chameleon. The launcher we told you about back in March looks to make inefficiency a thing of the past. While this UI is nothing short of revolutionary it didn’t hit the target market the company intended it for. Intended for OEMs the company behind the UI couldn’t find a buyer.
Rather than give up they’re taking to the UI to Kickstarter. Their goal is $50,000. Now I know what you’re thinking. Why the heck would we pay for a UI that’s only in the prototype stage let alone at all? Well the company has more than just a Photoshop rendering of the the UI as you will see from the videos below the UI looks amazing. And if you’re still skeptical the company behind Chameleon, Teknision, is listed as one of the designers behind the BlackBerry PlayBook‘s UI.
So if you feel like supporting what should be a very well done UI that’s already in the works, hit the source link below. Here’s hoping they meet their mark because this is going to be a great GUI. Again, you can check out the videos of this UI in motion after the break. Enjoy!
