Don’t expect an HTC One device from Verizon any time soon
May 14th

Verizon’s recently announced Droid Incredible 4G LTE closely resembles another Android smartphone from AT&T, the One S, but fans hoping for something a bit more like the critically-acclaimed One X are out of luck. AndroidAuthority caught up with HTC rep Jeff Gordon to see about the possibility of a true One series device on Big Red. His response? We won’t be seeing any of the “currently announced” HTC One devices on the carrier. The most powerful member of the One family won’t be making its way to Verizon, nor will the entry-level One V. The Droid Incredible 4G LTE is the closest thing we will get for the time being.
Now, his wording suggests the potential for future One series devices to land at Verizon. It also leaves open the possibility of a rebadged and retooled version of either the One X or One V (much like Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G LTE) . From the sound of it, the latter may be a long shot. If you are tied to Verizon and want anything like the One experience, the Droid Incredible 4G LTE is your best shot for the time being.

MIT researchers make fruit ripeness detector in their spare time
May 12th
In classic MIT fashion, researchers decided gently squeezing fruit to check its ripeness [insert crude sexual innuendo here] wasn’t good enough, so they created a hand-held sensor that detects when fruit is ripening. Oh, and it’s affordable too. Show-offs. At least it’s more kind to the fruit than this gadget.

LG LS970 Peeks Its Head Again, This Time Brings “Eclipse” Name & Confirms Quad-Core Krait CPU
May 11th

There is a new development in the LG LS970 saga. When we last heard about the device, it was rumored to feature an LTE chip inside and be Sprint-bound. We now have some additional details highlighting the juicy specs of the device. We knew the device would likely feature a quad-core processor— but it’s not a TI-based chip as we previously thought. Instead the superphone will feature a APQ8064 chipset… a Snapdragon S4 Krait processor in other words. That’s not all either… the chipset will be coupled with the Adreno 320 GPU, which is slated to bring bleeding edge performance. To wrap this impressive package up, the device will include 2GB of RAM (!!!), a 4.67-inch WXGA display and a 13MP camera with 1.3MP ffc squeezed into a device which will only be 8.6mm thick. The rear of the device is has design which seems to favor the Motorola RAZR (though there’s an unsightly hump over the camera). One thing to note is the leaked shot of the phone seems to have an obvious hole, which may possibly be meant to test the device’s radio such as the LTE modem or its GPS.

While the device is still identified as “G” internally, there is word that the device may end up being known as the “Eclipse 4G LTE” smartphone and will be released around the 4th quarter of this year. Well folks, it looks like we’re about to usher in the new era of the superphone. I just hope you all are ready…

NASA spots the glow of a hot water world for the first time ever
May 9th
![]()
The best looks that we’ve been able to get at exoplanets are when they pass in front of or behind their parent stars. When that happens, sometimes, if we’re lucky, we can get a brief hint atmosphere. For the first time, NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope has managed to observe a “super-Earth” directly, watching it glow in the infrared.
