Wikipad Gaming Tablet Makes Another Appearance, This Time Shouts It Will Team Up With Gaikai To Bring Console-Quality Streamed Games

It’s no secret we all love gaming on our Android tablets. That’s why Wikipad’s Android tablet looks to revolutionize the face of Android gaming as we know it. The tablet will be designed as a general portable gaming unit, instead of having a traditional tablet slate. You will find the standard D-pad, dual analog sticks and buttons galore in order to control your games. Wikipad also took some time to pump up the features of its gaming tablet— which will feature a 10.1-inch screen, a quad-core processor and optional 3G for those who choose to use that to connect to the cloud gaming service if you don’t want to play a game locally on your device. Speaking of which— Wikipad also announced it’s teaming up with Gaikai to bring high-quality console games which will be streamed to gamers of all types.
No word on what games will be available at launch nor do we know of when the intriguing device will be released, but we suspect that they’ll want to release it soon– especially as summer is around the corner. Hit the break for the full presser.

Without cloud gaming, many incredible console quality games could never appear on tablets.

The Wikipad concept was announced earlier this year with an enthusiastic response from gamers and press at CES 2012. The tablet offers the first-of-its-kind combination of HD graphics, optional 3G module and game console style controls that feature dual-analog sticks as well as a d-pad and video game buttons. Wikipad also features a unique Wifi-Direct optional accessory which will allow games to be played on HDTV monitors or televisions, allowing players to use the tablet as a portable console gamepad as well as a premium Android tablet.
Wikipad has listened to feedback from gamers worldwide since CES and will launch its tablet with a full suite of the latest immersive entertainment features and enhanced specifications including replacing the 8.1″ version with a premium 10.1″ screen, ultra-light chassis, optional 3G antenna for mobile provider subscriptions and a quad core processor. The official launch date for the enhanced Wikipad has yet to be announced.

Apple Loses Another Patent Infringement Claim, This Time Surrendering Victory To Motorola

Apple has taken yet another major blow in its neverending war against competitionAndroid, this time seeing Motorola see sweet victory. Apparently federal judge Richard A. Posner has ruled that Apple’s “finger-swipe” patent infringement claim against MOTO was not the same as tapping an item on screen. His decision addresses Apple’s claim that six applications available on Motorola Mobility-made devices, including those used for browsing photographs, musical album covers and YouTube Inc. videos, infringe its touch-screen finger-tap functionality patent. Apparently, Posner didn’t want to hear any of it and shared the following:
“Apple contends that the finger swipe is equivalent to a finger tap because the two gestures are interchangeable. If consumers distinguish between the two, they are not interchangeable”.
Another day, another frivolous claim tossed out the door. Here’s hoping this is another step towards seeing the end of ridiculous lawsuits from Apple.

The Best Time To Buy a Mac or iOS Device (Infographic)

It can be extremely tempting to buy Apple’s latest products as soon as they are released, and with new Ivy Bridge Macs expected to arrive very soon, that temptation has become even stronger! According to Dealnews, however (via 9to5Mac), that may not be the best idea!
Dealnews looked at data from the last three years of Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPod pricing, finding that buyers could easily save hundreds of dollars by waiting a short while after Apple releases products before making their purchase.
Personally, I’d rather have Apple’s latest products sooner than save a small amount of cash – but to each their own! Check out the infographic below for all the details!

Oracle to Provide Direct Java Updates for OS X at the Same Time As Windows

For a long time Java updates on the Mac have not been in sync with the ones on Windows, with Apple and Oracle operating on different timetables. Apple’s most recent update was two months later than Oracle’s, which was part of what allowed the Flashback exploit to affect Macs. However Oracle’s Henrik Stahl has announced the release of a Java SDK pack (Java Development Kit 7 and JavaFX Software Development Kit 2.1 included) to kickstart their expanded support for OS X.
This is the first time that Oracle have ventured directly into the OS X environment, and it means that the Mac should receive the Java updates at the same time that Windows does, which should prevent any malicious software like the Flashback trojan taking advantage of it.
The SDK is only compatible with Lion, so users of Snow Leopard will not be able to benefit from these upcoming updates, but it is still something that should improve the security of OS X overall, something that Eugene Kapersky said was ’10 years behind’ Microsoft.
