Go unauthorize some of your devices from Google Music right now [UPDATE: Google Issues Statement]
May 17th
Earlier today it was reported that Google may have imposed a device deactivation limit of four devices per year on Google Music. This was likely to protect the recording industry against music sharing, but this adversely affects many users in ways Google probably overlooked. Namely, ROM updates and installs can sometimes be counted as a new device on your Google Music list. Once you hit 10 devices you have to unauthorize some to use Google Music on another device.
Most ROM users will find that their list is filled with duplicate entries, and if they can’t deauthorize devices more than four times in a single year, they’ll soon be SoL on using Google Music on future ROM installs.
You either limit the ROM installs or you get rid of Google Music, and it’s a choice that yours truly was faced with upon hearing this news. Users tried to deauthorize more than four devices earlier to confirm that this was the case, and they were indeed met with an alert.
But it seems Google’s lifted the limit for now. We’re not sure if they’re doing this temporarily to allow users a chance to deauthorize, if this is a permanent move, or if they’re looking into a different method for counting authorized devices (a MAC address or IMEI number would work great, we think).
We’re hoping it’s the latter two situations, but Google hasn’t released any official word to let us know either way. If you need to unauthorize more devices, now is your chance to do so. Head to Google Music and click the ‘music settings’ button in the upper right corner.
UPDATE: Google has issued this statement via their Google Play FAQ:
Yesterday we made a change to our device policy for music on Google Play. Any user can associate up to 10 devices to his or her account. Once you have connected 10 devices, you may add a new device only by deauthorizing an existing one from your account, and you may do this up to four times per year.
We limit the number of times you can swap out new devices at the request of some of our music partners in an effort to limit abuse. We understand this has caused some issues for users who often deauthorize and reauthorize the same device, and we are currently re-implementing the solution in a way that works for our users and music partners.
We apologize for any inconvenience and will update this page as new changes are made.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer receives 9.2.1.24 OTA update
May 16th
The original Eee Pad Transformer by ASUS has received a firmware upgrade to version 9.2.1.24 today, and it brings with it some fixes and enhancements that I’m sure a few people will appreciate. One new feature that many of you should definitely appreciate Face Unlock. Sure, it’s not the most secure and practical method for unlocking a device, but it’s still nice to have.
Other changes include the ability for the status bar to maintain on the display during gameplay, and improvements to the email application. Head to the About Tablet section of the device and hit the firmware update to check for it. This should only be available to the US and Canada for the time being. [via AndroidForums.com]

Apple Releases Second Update for OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3
May 16th
As noted by 9to5Mac, Apple has just released an update for OS X Mountain Lion DP3 – their second update to the third developer preview. It’s unclear what changes the update may contain, as Apple has not offered any release notes with the update.

It’s also unclear why Apple continues to release updates for Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3 instead of releasing a fourth developer preview. It’s also odd that Apple hasn’t listed changes for either of the two updates to DP3. The current build number is now up to 12A206j.
My suspicion is that Apple is preparing another major update to the developer preview that will include features unveiled at WWDC in June, and that Apple is simply pushing critical stability and performance updates to developers in the meantime.
The update is available through Software Update for those who have Mountain Lion DP3 installed, although the update is not currently showing in Apple’s developer portal.
We’ll be digging around in Mountain Lion today to see if we can see anything new – please let us know if you notice any changes!

May 16th

For those of you that use the official Twitter for Android App you’ll be happy to know that there is an update waiting for you. Hit the My Apps section of the Google Play Store and you’ll find the update. It fixes issues with sync settings as well as fixes issues that people who are running Android 2.0/2.1 were having. Upon checking the What’s New tab in the play store you can see that it:
- Fixes missing avatars on devices running Eclair (Android 2.0/2.1)
- Accurately displays sync settings based on system sync setting
- Fixes Top Tweets appearing out of order in search and discover
- Fixes various other bugs and crashers
This brings Twitter for Android to v3.2.2 and should be available to you folks now. For those that are wanting to check it out hit the Play Store link or QR Code after the break. While I personally use Plume and Boid for all my Twitter needs, it’s nice to see Twitter push these bug fixes quickly. Enjoy!

Facebook for Android to Receive Update Today, Timeline Photos Up to 3X Larger
May 16th

Facebook is going through some much needed changes lately and today’s update should make your timeline look a little prettier. At some point today you will start to notice that the pictures in your timeline appear bigger, because they are (or will be). Timeline pictures will now be up to three times larger than before and instead of thumbnails that you need to tap in order to view the image, the pictures will now almost stretch from “edge to edge” of your device’s screen. Not only will the Android app be graced with this update, the mobile website version is due for the change-up as well. Those of you who are frequent Facebookers may recognize this upgrade as it is something they changed on the desktop version of the app a while back.

To reap these photo benefits there is no need to update your Facebook app through the Google Play Store. This update will take place on the server side of things so you should eventually notice the change once the Facebook team flips the proverbial “update switch.” I would tell you that I will monitor the app to let you now when the update is in place, but I recently switched over to Fast for Facebook for the little Facebooking that I do. So if you guys happen to notice the update, be a pal and let us know in the comments section below. Thanks!
